The N-TEN-AT4 EQ/CONSOLE Combo for Nebula faithfully reproduces all aspects of the hardware's character, from clean to slightly driven amplification stages through the wonderful original Neve input and output transformers and Class A to A/B amplification, and inductor-based eq circuitry. Every detail has been captured for repeatable digital use inside your favorite DAW. This collection is ideal to use as a track and buss group, and even master 2-track amplification stage. This allows the user to color their multi-track sessions with the authentic feel of the original console that the channel strip comes from. The high/low cut eq's can be used for trouble shooting unwanted frequencies above/below the recorded range. Both regular "Q" and narrow "Q" widths are provided with fixed frequencies, and interpolated for additional features that do not exist on the original unit, along with clean and harmonic distortion variations of the presets.

We are pleased to present this classic, vintage, authentic, original "Cooltec" EQP-1A3S Solid State Program EQ. This Silver-Face Classic is the original passive design created by Pulse Technologies, utilizing an API 2520 op-amp for make-up gain and original transformers which many consider the heart of the unit's distinct sound. Technically, this unit may be known as a "1A3" or a "1A3S". The verdict is out on whether the "S" is a revision, or is supposed to represent "Solid State" or "Silver" finish. There are all-tube, hybrid tube/solid state, and all solid state versions of the 1A3 and the 1A3S. Since we know this unit to be solid state, we are choosing to include the "S" in its title for your own reference. All that you need to know about the unit is that this is THE eq that has made Pultec famous for perfect high end sweetening, along with the tube version, PEQ, and EQP1 and EQP1A. These have become so revered for their punchy, deep impact on bass that they are even more rare now than the blue face models. The only one we've seen for sale recently was over $4000, and some have spent more than $12,500 for matched buss pairs.

All boost and cut options are provided in this rare Nebula program collection, along with many combinations that provide multiple instant "Q" widths, separate programs of interpolation, settings in-between the fixed frequencies to bring options not available on the original unit, and preamp programs to finally bring the wonderful sound of the original Pultec eq inside the Nebula engine! And yes, it is true, that simply passing your tracks through this either in eq mode or as a preamp, does enhance tracks with a subtle, beautiful quality unlike any other design. And also, yes we have created programs specifically for creating the famous Pultec "Boost/Cut" low end.

As you know, each eq release that we decide to provide is chosen very carefully for its uniqueness, its importance in the history of recording, its quality sound, and also its balance in how it will benefit your recording, mixing, and mastering work along with other eq options available. The Peak EQ is another classic program eq that is inspired by this "Cooltec" and the all-tube version of this "Cooltec". Programs in The Peak were carefully chosen to provide a perfect balance for those who wish to embrace the subtle sonic differences and similarities between units of similar design. Where the Peak is a tube design with a discrete solid state balanced output, the "Cooltec" is an all original solid state design. Other program eq's that follow will always be optimized so that each is a perfect compliment to the exact coloration that you may wish to use for each individual track. Having stated this fact, we can concur with the common opinion of other world famous engineers that have used this particular EQP-1A3S, that it is one of the most spectacular sounding examples of the true classic Pultec that we've heard. When compared to the same blue and silver-face issues that are either hybrid tube designs or all-tube designs, the only subtle sonic signature of notice is that the solid state tends to be a bit tighter and punchier on the extreme lows, but has the equal depth and 'reach' that is simply stunning.

The Bogen MXM K93 Vintage Tube Mixer/EQ Combo for Nebula faithfully reproduces this classic late 1950's all-tube mixer. The Line input, Microphone input, Low cut filter, and Low and High EQ bands are faithfully captured for use directly inside your DAW. This collection combines the "CDSoundMaster Classic Console Series" library of programs with the classic tube eq of this incredible sounding mixer. Programs include Drive, High gain, Medium gain, and Low gain programs from Line input and Microphone input channels.

The original Bogen MXM K93 that was sampled is in nearly perfect original condition. The original Mullard tubes are made for Bogen and branded as such. Since the tubes perform consistently and at full power, this unit serves the added benefit of providing the best years for the tubes used. The mixer's design represents the highest quality technology of the late 50's and early 60's, with specially designed input and output transformers, and separate input transformer designs for the line and microphone signal paths. The tube paths for line and microphone are unique as well. The Bogen operates on several sections of tubes for preamplification and amplification, including the 6cg7, 6bf6, 6x4, EF86, and ECC83.

The Focal Point 115HD EQ for Nebula faithfully reproduces all eq bands of the original hardware and the preamp of the entire channel strip for use as a mixing desk channel turning your DAW into a stunning classic analog hardware device.

The eq's are divided into shelving, high/low cut, and upper and lower band frequencies. For flexibility, the middle bands are provided at all "Q" settings, with and without harmonic content. This is a very versitile eq that is just as beneficial in mixing as it is for mastering. It works as an excellent problem solver but is also stunningly smooth and beautiful sounding for tone shaping and adding intentional color. We believe that this has a place among the very best collector eq's in the world.

The original Focal Point 115HD that was sampled is a valuable part of our studio recording heritage. It is a channel strip with its own separate outboard power supply. It comes from a completely unique design for the original mixing desk designed for one of the world's most famous Producers of all times, by the most acclaimed console designer of all times. The 115HD has six bands of eq combined with a beautiful sounding amplification stage. The Focal Point company has since built a reputation for high quality mic pre's, eq's, and hybrid software/hardware technologies, along with pro-sumer grade budget-conscious designs. Their more popular current lines resemble the look and feel of the earliest designs, but are simply not the same. We are honored to provide this rare, valuable, and faithful reproduction of the 115HD for use in Nebula.

The original console that has inspired this collection is a completely one-of-a-kind, custom built console. we are very pleased to present this one-of-a-kind mixing desk, built from the ground up completely customized for the BBC in the late 1970's. This classic desk features Class A discrete, transformer-balanced channels with original operational amplifiers on channels, buss, and mains. This mixing board does contain a wonderful combination of precision and analog character, but one of its prominent features is its amazing frequency response. When using the direct channel outputs with the eq circuit turned off, or bypassed, this console provides an almost perfectly flat response from 20Hz to 20kHz. From 20kHz-30kHz the signal increases in amount of energy and waveform response, until becomming more offest in the highest register. The result is a tight, clean, punchy sound without shift or loss in any audible frequency range. The direct out with eq engaged is almost as perfectly flat from around 500Hz to 10kHz, and bows down slightly from 500Hz to 20Hz at a steady reduction just under a dB. The high end reduction in this signal reduces by only about 1/6th of a dB and remains even and clean well above 22kHz. This makes the eq-engaged option an excellent choice to provide multiple channels or a selection of a mix with a very subtle mid range color without any obvious shift in frequencies. The buss group and main outputs exhibit essentially the same spectral behavior as the directs, with a slightly higher amount of harmonic non-linearity and overtones, with an additional 1/5th dB or so of fast fluctuation in the high frequencies above 12kHz from the mains, resulting in more character in the highs without loss of frequency. These qualities make this an excellent board with classic vintage personality where the user wishes to rely on consistency and precise, accurate detail, with pleasant subtle rounding and definition added to the dimension of each track.

These stand for All, meaning programs that cover the entire dynamic range, Hi, for the loudest dynamic range, Lo, for the quietest dynamic range, K5 for reduced 5 Kernels programs, and Clean, for the same "ALL" programs without harmonic content.

You are given the same flexibility as the console when it comes to the sound you wish to achieve with your virtual connections.

Typically, when using direct outs you are sending your console channel directly out to your tape machine to record the track. In this case, you may use Direct Outs to go to an instance of R2R (and TB+ if desired). Depending on your system's performance, you may create long chains of Nebula instances to build up the utmost accuracy and detail in analog sound.

When using the Main Outs, the channel is routed from its inline signal to a final summing output stage, which adds a slightly different sonic character than the Direct Outs. You can use the Main Outs for Main two track out scenarios. The group buss "B" programs are sent directly out of the console's sub group section. Unique to this console, the routing either goes directly out the channel, directly out the buss, or directly out the mains. This means that the group buss does not travel through the main outs. This gives a slightly cleaner yet still unique character to the buss section.

About the "MCI JH 536"
We are very pleased to present this incredible piece of audio recording history. It was first created in 1975 with the first installation in 1976. It was received as being one of the finest sounding mixing desks of its time. We proudly present to you this wonderfully maintained, yet unaltered and unmodified original console for use in all of your DAW projects! It is based upon very common high end components and schematics that allow for modification and alteration. "Siemens W295B EQ For Nebula"

"Siemens W295B EQ For Nebula" consists of 20 programs.

The Siemens W295B is a vintage, early 1970's, West German, discrete solid state 3-band eq with beautiful sounding transformer inputs and outputs and the very special Sitral transistor. The unit used for this release is all original in excellent working condition.

The W295B has a High Shelf eq, and Low Shelf eq, both with +/-15dB in 3dB increments. It also has a Middle Range bell eq with fixed frequencies of 700Hz, 1kHz, 1.5kHz, 2.3kHz, 3.5kHz, and 5.6kHz with +/- 8dB in 2dB increments.

It is regularly compared to the 'GEQ' and Pultec as the sweetest, silkiest sounding high end ever created, and remains in my top 5 best sounding shelf and mids as well! It is unique to other units, and has a special character all its own.

There are many other designs from the same era and later, that are based upon the same schematics, but because the parts used for the Siemens model were only made for their W295B production, and are no longer available, the difference in pristine quality from others like ANT, Filtek, BFE, etc. can be heard. Yes, there are others that come close, but none that are equal. After the closing of Telefunken's ELA, ANT arrived for replacements and servicing, but the original transistor created for the Siemens was replaced with rather plain sounding new parts, as is the case for the variant 'versions' of the '295'.

The Siemens used to be the best bargain in high end eq. You will find user's comments stating 'my favorite vocal eq' for tracking and 'my favorite mastering eq' for certain types of music. But now, the price for them climbs daily, as every unit that exists either resides in a high end studio or mastering facility, and very few ever return to circulation unless they cannot be serviced. Thanks to your support of "The Peak" EQ, I tracked down and purchased an extremely special unit specifically for this release.

What makes owning this eq for Nebula even more special? Added functionality!

Now, the Siemens W295B has extra frequency capability from every mid-point between the fixed frequencies of the mid range eq, and at every gain level mid-point between fixed gain stages. There is also a special collection of high and low shelf combined frequencies, allowing you to balance highs and lows at the same time, at any variable balance. "Tape Booster +" has been created to provide the Nebula Commercial user a high quality collection of settings that act as virtual building blocks within your DAW environment. Once "R2R- The Essential Analog Tape Collection", was released, I began applying the vast information and calculations derived from the various reel to reel machines included in the R2R collection.

A couple of things in particular intrigued me. First, I was amazed at how profound small variations in harmonic content could affect the difference in one machine and the next, and how they differed in character from tube devices and how tubes generate harmonic distortion. It seemed that with some very high quality tape machines, that very low harmonic readings could generate a great amount of sonic signature. With tubes, this normally requires 2-3 times more harmonic content to produce similar results.

My approach to the accurate and detailed tape sound is 3 important elements working in unison:

1. R2R
The R2R Collection is the foundation and basis for the other two
stages to work. By providing a range of reel to reel tape machines within
the DAW environment "at spec" and even beyond, this is excellent on its own.
But, if one desires truly accurate higher volumes of tape gain, then R2R
also acts to provide a perfect template for stage two.

2. Tape Booster +
This is designed specifically to work in unison with R2R to provide additional
scaled volume as it exists from true tape machines. This collection of programs
will work excellent on their own as an accurate tape saturation program, but when
matched with R2R, we now have the proper preparation for truly advanced
volumetric change without harm to peaks. With very careful scaling, one can use
multiple renderings to increase levels into accurate distortion.

3. The third stage uses both R2R and Tape Booster + as foundational building blocks
in order to achieve what happens when driving these machines completely into the red.
Stage 3 does help to work in subtle levels to add additional elements of
leveling compression and harmonic content, but more importantly it resolves
the complex character of overloading the machines and tape, or 'slamming the levels'!

The Tape Booster + collection is divided into two main categories.
The first, 96, represents programs created at 96kHz. The second
is 44, representing programs created at 44.1kHz.
All of the programs in the 96kHz are recommended for use at
96kHz and 44.1kHz equally. The 44.1kHz programs are for use
at 44.1, 48, 88.2, and 96 kHz.

"Retro Analog Studio Suite" is a library of presets for the Nebula plug-in. I use this library for my own mixing projects and am pleased to make it available to Nebula users for an extremely low price. I have created this large collection of original programs to provide you with very realistic equalizers, preamps, tape tracks, and compressors, created completely from scratch. What is unique is that the focus is not on individual pieces of gear, but rather in providing the user with authentic complete signal chains modelled after several idealized, All-Analog Studios of the past.

The equalizer presets are not only used as eq's, but as the input of a console sent to it's individual tape out, return from tape back to console channel, bus to group, and out to 2-track tape. All of this minus unwanted noise and loss of definition. Each part of this signal chain is fed to the following stage, with a very realistic dynamic and harmonic range. The eq's are accurately positioned in the audio path and affect the outcome of only the signals that follow. All of this flows easily and smoothly, as you simply use the Nebula's input slider as your input gain pot and channel fader, and all levels follow consequently. "Vintage Tube Collection": The CDSoundMaster Vintage Tube Collection

Over 70 Programs within one Nebula Commercial Library!

So, what is it about 'that tube sound' that everyone is always talking about?
There is a lot beyond the science and numbers of good sound. Overdriving a signal, or subtly resetting and restaging volume levels can activate the special overtones and harmonic qualities of different tubes to produce the richest, purest sound that exists. Beyond the technical representation of RMS, 1st and 2nd order harmonics, dB's, and transients, comes the interaction of the mind, the ears, the spirit, and the music. We have selected the range of tubes that are sonic building blocks for you to use to make the best mixes that you can.

This collection is a near-perfect represenation of natural sound passing through an all-tube analog device making use of the most important sonic characteristics of the "12" series dual triode vacuum tube; specifically, the 12au7. Several specific vintage tubes, known as "NOS" or "New Old Stock" were collected, tested, and selected for this very special release. These tubes are among the elite of the very last existing versions of certain specialty designs. In fact, the only tubes that are considered more valuable or collectible than those in this collection have become so expensive due to their scarcisty, that one could easily spend more for the tubes than the gear they are designed for! Tubes were selected based not only upon their manufacturing brand, but also for the specific product line, for the specific years and dates of origin, for the specific factories that they were created in, down to every precise detail of construction of identifying parts, and for their current test-result readings to assure the maximum integrity in sound. The tubes for this collection are from the 12au7 family of dual triodes, which are prefered for their high end audiophile reproduction abilities.

The "Vintage Tube Collection"

The Programs

For all of the programs in this entire collection, the aesthetic qualities of the actual tube itself play just as large a role as the settings themselves in determining best uses. At clean settings, these tubes all exhibit a hifi polishing quality that has made them the perfect compliment to the most stringent listening environment. When placed under greater gain settings, we see what has made them the absolute choices for elite musical equipment set-ups. One of the valuable aspects of this collection, beyond the range of tubes and range of settings, is that the medium to heavy setting programs are intentionally rounded off to give the qualities of a tube mid-range equalizer, without the use of any extraneous circuitry. The absolute natural reaction of analog science to music is the kind of frequency shaping that takes place with the best sounding harmonic content suppliment that our ears can respond to! Each tube has slightly unique reactions to frequency, so each program and type of tube will be explained here for your best choices of use in content.

The Source + Plus is our completely custom design that was used for sampling this collection. It allows for the reproduction of sound at the absolute purest quality, with a range of adjustment and control all the way to a level of full overdrive and distortion yet in a very hifi, full, round character. This allows for the inclusion of all of the tube's personality to shine through. No longer is the evaluation of these tubes limited to extremely controlled listening environments where only the most discerning ears will truly appreciate the subtle differences and qualities. At different bias settings, and different control levels, one can hear all of the many strengths and weaknesses, providing a great reference for each tube's best use in recording, mixing, and mastering. An important element of the construction of this proprietary design of the hardware, is that it acts upon both sides of the dual triode tube at the same time, in a cascading serial mode, with absolute control of the stage 1 input gain, the relative output of stage 1 into stage 2, with unique control of stage 1 output and stage two input. These two stages reach the output gain at the same time, so they can be activated at any level of gain at either stage, before this is increased at the output gain stage of triode #2 AND output gain master. This means that when I have dialed every setting in for each program, it is not just being turned on at a pre-determined set level. It is dialing in the absolute best sounding performance of each tube. If a tube begins to react earlier to certain settings than another tube, then the settings have been chosen specifically for tha tube to sound its best.

These tubes have been compared and tested under a great range of content and settings in the analog world in order to best classify their usefulness. There is definitely a reason that the Bugle Boy brand by Amperex and the Mullard classic vintage tubes rise to the top of nearly every single audiophile list of favorites. This is sometimes immediately followed by the Radiotechnique, Brimar, and a select few others, matched only by the JJ/Tesla as a modern manufacturing that meets the sonic goals of these amazing classics on its own merits.

The Amperex Bugle Boy Short Plate and Long Plate both share many of the same desirable characteristics, but are unique designs. The most outstanding characteristics of this tube is the combination of all elements one looks for in a tube. The high end, mids, lows, separation, harmonics, sense of space in sound reproduction, dynamics, sustain, stereo width, and microphonics. For these tubes, the low frequencies are reproduced at a quality that can be trusted. They can be very musical at all frequencies when adjusted in a device like the one used for this collection. The mid range is very balanced and subtly forward sounding at a rate of increase correllating to the increase in harmonics that is spectacular on full mixes, bus groups, and individual instrument and track tuning as well. The high end is very sweet sounding, and is best described as accurate but not edgy or bright. It is very wide and clean and not fuzzy or indistinguished, yet it is not glassy or dull. When the tube is pushed harder, it remains full and round before sounding noticeably distorted.

Some settings of the Short Plate Bugly Boy are extremely unique in that when pushed fairly hard, it gains a very natural increase in volume from around 50Hz-100Hz and another one centered at 500Hz, with a slight decrease around 2.5kHz. This is only at very specific extreme settings specified on program BB_SP_H1_9K.

The long and short plate Mullard's are known as the favorite of the warm sounding tube. Considering that the audio world most widely labels 'that tube sound' as 'warming up tracks', it is hard to resist considering these two of the greatest tubes in the world. At the top of the food chain of tubes based upon sound characteristics are the "12" series. The most popular is the 12ax7 because of its wide use in guitar amps and distortion pedals. For absolute pure sound in hifi preamplification, the 12au7 is considered the best. The 12au7 can replace the 12ax7 in any cab./pedal scenario as well, and usually is credited with better tone and roundness/fullness in signal before distortion. The Mullard covers the complete gamut from almost perfect linearity used for final mastering, to absolute shredding with lengthened, beautifully textured harmonics and ringing overtones that bring instruments to life. They are perhaps slightly behind the Bugle Boy in absolute sound stage separation of instruments, and overall extended sounding highs. But, they make up for these characteristics immediately with an up-front quality for individual instruments, vocals, and dimensional stereo sound that is built by combining the type of harmonics with the frequency shifts that happen on a very subtle level. Words like silky, velvety, warm, rich, and musical are all descriptors that I believe hold true for the Mullards. I'd say these two were my absolute favorite in all instances if I didn't have to rule out the Amperex in the process! Truly, the two Bugle Boy's and two Mullards are an absolute perfect match for each other.

The Brimar 13D5 is an excellent example of lively sound without unwanted brightness. It is able to exhibit some characteristics of higher gain without overt artifacts. It is smooth but not as personality-driven as the Mullard and not as overwhelmingly impactful as the Amperex. At moderate settings, it begins to stand out as an excellent tone-shaper, adding fullness to low mids from as wide a "Q" as 50Hz to 2kHz, while remaining exceptionally flat in the sub-lows. Even at extreme settings and mid and low bias settings, the Brimar holds on to a nice volume increase curve from 100Hz to 1kHz. If you have a thin, brittle, or harsh sounding source that should be filling out the mids and low end, you may want to try some of these programs out. More specifics are found in each program. The quality of this tube is not a second choice to the Amperex of Mullard, in that the frequencies or tonal qualities do not cheapen the sound or bring undesirable results. Trust me, there are plenty of tubes that fall into that category and they are not in this collection!

The Radiotechnique is described as a French Mullard. It is, in fact, from a Mullard plant located in France, but they had specific designs of their own from month to month, year to year. The 1958 long plate is one of the absolute most sought after from this plant, only two others being considered worthy of this year; the '56 and the '65 short plates. This is an extremely linear tube with subtle personality all the way into high gain. At moderate settings it has a wonderful character of smoothness and roundness. It provides a slight scoop around 2kHz or so, with a slight rise in upper frequencies, with more volume at around 500Hz or so at more heavy settings. Overall, this tube is great for general experimenting on tracks where you want to add nice harmonics and a beautful rounded tone without making a huge change in frequencies.

The JJ/Tesla is an excellent, tight, punchy, yet smooth sounding tube with excellent response to sharp, quick transients. It is fantastic on percussive material and can be pushed hard for harmonics without major loss to frequencies. It gains a fairly common frequency curve when pushed into overdrive, with a rise in wide "Q" from around 75Hz to 1kHz, with a median around 500Hz or so.

The 12ax7 is an excellent sounding tube, most likely hand-selected Sovtek. It is added here for fun, so I will focus notes on the true main attractions. I do encourage you to try some settings and find some favorites as I have. There is absolutely nothing wrong with using this program all over the place if you like the sound. If they all miraculously disappeared tomorrow, I'm sure the price would jump. But, there is a reason they come stock on 90% of current beyond the bulk pricing, as they run linear when so-desired and do not leave a huge sonic imprint of their own, mostly moving out of the way of the equipment to produce its own signature sound.

Clean Settings

The "Clean" tube settings are marked by a "C" in the program name, and are 3 Kernel programs, meaning that 3 distortion Kernels are used for 3 levels of streaming harmonics.
These are the best programs to use for the most critical source material where the least change in frequency response is desired. The following four programs are the most flat frequency responses that offer a great deal of pleasant harmonic content and character without making major changes to frequencies:

In technical use, these tubes would have been rated for their ability to change as little frequency and to read as low in distortion as possible under clean running conditions. For our intentions of hearing as much of their pleasing affects on the signal, it is the most helpful to get as much harmonic content from these programs as possible, while still remaining relatively flat in response.

For this purpose, the programs above have also been ordered by how much harmonic content is generated at their maximum input and drive settings. The Bugly Boy Short Plate providing the most harmonic content while still nearly flat, and the RTQ remaining almost completely distortion free at its heaviest level at this setting.

These along with all other "C" or "Clean" setting programs are your best choice for mixing and mastering with a flat frequency response.

Low gain settings

Each tube has at least one low gain program, which includes an "L" next to the number of Kernels in the program. These programs represent an extremely similar frequency response to their clean setting equivalents. There is variation in how much each tube produces in harmonics, and this will be covered in each program's description.

Medium gain settings

All of the tubes included begin to exhibit much more individual personality at their Medium gain settings. You can recognize these programs under each tube with the designation "M" just before the number of Kernels in the program. Outstanding differences in frequencies and harmonics are discussed in each programs.

Heavy gain settings

This is where the most diversity and audible change of tube character takes place. Every program of every tube is a variation that gives the best traits at every setting measurable within Nebula. Keep in mind that absolute full gain overdrive is possible in 3 combination stages with the actual hardware, but this goes beyond what Nebula is currently created to represent. I've been careful with every setting to make sure that you are getting the absolute authentic tube sound as far as it can be pushed! Each individual frequency response and harmonic character will be discussed in each program note.

Low Bias and Medium Bias

Changing the bias runs the tubes at a different power structure, giving a completely different range of color, harmonics, and frequency balance. These are extremely unique sounding settings and are amazing for changing the tone of your recordings in a manner that even the most beautiful sounding eq circuits just cannot compete with. These are all described in particular with each program to follow.

With our first release in this series, "The Vintage Tube Collection", we brought the unique sound of several classic vintage dual triode vacuum tubes to the Nebula Plug-in, utilizing our completely unique, proprietary-design hardware, the Source + Plus Dual-Stage sound processor. This device, designed to fill a niche in the mastering field and also for multiple tasks in mixing, tracking, and recording, the Source + Plus is a transformerless design, and is completely custom, hand-built, using all point-to-point wiring for the absolute best in analog sound. Several rare vintage tubes were sampled at light, medium, and heavy settings, providing the natural sound of tubes within the user's DAW.

Now, with the second release in the "Vintage Tube Series", we are taking the possibilities of natural tube harmonic software to the next level, showing once again the amazing abilities of the Nebula plug-in! This collection is the realization of the challenge to bring moderate-to-heavy natural overdrive distortion to Nebula Commercial. This is not an attempt to replace your distortion pedal or Marshall stack: This is about fulfilling the range of dimensionality to the sound of valves and equalization. The eq's in this collection are tunable, scalable, and capable of reproducing stunning and original analog eq from clean to fuzzy and overdriven. Every setting was prepared side-by-side with music selections to make sure that all stages react precisely the same in Nebula as the hardware.

The sounds in "The Tube Bender EQ Collection" are derived using two dual-triode 12au7 Vintage Mullard Vacuum Tubes serially connected to provide four stages of completely variable control over gain, volume, gain-staging, and bias. This stage is passed on to a vintage '1073-style' eq where the combination of transformers, vacuum tubes, and eq filters are adapted to provide some of the most colorful, character-driven tracking and mixing eq's ever to take place in the digital domain! Several unique stages of boost and cut curves are combined with the natural frequency-shaping characteristics of the tube gain-staging and corresponding harmonics, providing a palette of sounds that should inspire as well as problem-solve.

The collection includes a unique process we call "TubeShapers", which are completely created by the unique four-stage tube process, balancing gain and overdrive to affect the frequency balance of the signal, providing you with all-tube eq's that you won't find anywhere else! Also included are multiple versions of mid-range bell-shape eq's, high and low shelf eq's with multiple cut-off frequencies, adjustable low cut filters combined with original frequency plots, and several unique preamp settings for mixing and matching signal chains.

The EQ's in this collection are broken down into several categories:

COR = Corrective EQ

These are used to place after any eq in the "MD1", "MD2", or "MD3" eq programs if you wish to use them at a flatter frequency response. This is recommended where there is more concern for accuracy over the effect of sound manipulation.

LOW = Low frequency EQ's, including Low Cut and Low Shelf.

Hi = High Shelf Frequency EQ's

MD1, MD2, MD3 = Mid Range Frequency Bell Shape EQ's, created with three different 4-stage valve configurations with different frequency plot and harmonic generation for wide spectrum of results. Used alone for greatest tailoring of sound, special effect and color eq'ing, and most unique eq results. Used with Corresponding Corrective EQ's placed after them for flatter frequency response for more precise eq'ing.

TBS = Tube Shaper EQ's. These are very unique programs created with a tone spectrum knob and drive that allow for an amazing range of eq's created solely by adjustments to 4 stages of valve gain and bias. Use these for unique eq effects, in place of traditional eq'ing, and linked to DAW automation for some of the most amazing overdriven phaser effects you'l ever use!

About "MMP"
For many years, Roland has brought us amazing products including everything from guitar combo amps to multi-track recorders, mixers, and stunning outboard effects processors.
They were pioneers in data compression and sampling for amazing keyboards and samplers like the U110-220, countless other synths and sample-based keyboards and sound modules, along with some of the most revered electronic drumset solutions. Their "VG" series of guitar system processors remains one of the most sophisticated and amazing sounding guitar processing systems. In the fast pace of the digital age, items like the VG-88 reached the market at over $3500 (and more for chip upgrades!), until the availability of digital processing eventually brought the price down well under $1000.
Much of this technology revolved around their "COSM" modeling technology. This has been used for everything from creating believable acoustic drums to varied stringed instruments, mic modeling, preamps, compressors, etc.
Roland was early in the game to inspire the concept of using high quality data
convolution to filter the sound of recording devices to give the translation the
authentic feel of other devices. They used this process to model microphones,
microphone proximity, and microphone preamps and signal stages. These products preceeded those by Antares, Focusrite, and others. Although there are aspects of this technology that have been remarkably improved in recent years (Nebula!!!), it is valuable to reflect on what they achieved so well.
One of their little-known successes was the MMP-2 Mic Modeling Preamp. Due to the success of their multi-track recorders featuring COSM technology, they created the MMP-2 as their flagship high end stereo microphone preamp. Included in the hardware was an excellent 24/96 converter with Spdif and AES, two channels of balanced 1/4" and Xlr mic inputs, pads, and a
full-featured series of modeled mics, preamps, compressors, and eq's. Included in the processing was carefully analyzed harmonic content that is impressively designed.
This Nebula release proudly recreates the high-points of the now discontinued MMP-2 in a more advanced VVKT format with 120 incredible programs! These programs focus upon the mixer channel/microphone preamp emulations, tube and solid state emulations, and instrument preset programs that combine harmonics with eq recommended for recording anything from vocals to trumpets, viola to nylon guitar.
