    The Programs

Custom Shop Buss VCA Compressor 1 for Nebula Pro:

Custom Shop Buss VCA Compressor 1 for Nebula Pro consists of 4 programs: You will find these under CDS>CMP>CC1, all sampled at 96kHz and tested to retain accuracy at 44.1kHz 48kHz and 88.2kHz sample rates with the latest version of Nebula Pro. They are designed to be used with the Reverb instance.

The Custom Shop Buss VCA Compressor 1 for Nebula Pro is a unique, completely one-of-a-kind buss compressor with a lot of VCA attitude and a unique fine-tuned sound that is unlike any other. It harkens back to the classic original dbx sound, and was custom-built to provide the same fast snap and punch of the original, with a refined response sensor and its own unique grab-and-release effect. This is not a clone of a DBX or SSL or other; it is its own unique one-off design, but has a definite consistent quality of the aggressive instant attack ‘crunk smack pow’ of the best DBX comps. Better than DBX and SSL, in my opinion, at clamp and glue; you’re going to want this! This compressor is especially useful for hard rock, metal, aggressive music styles, full drum groups, and individual instrument tracks that need edge and character, like slap bass and picked bass and guitars.

It makes an incredibly strong statement on individual drums and percussion, and can work for just about any mixing scenario when used with either very shallow threshold and high ratio or vice versa.

    A note about setting levels

Many people have questions about the best way to set up their audio files, DAW tracks, buss groups, or Nebula Pro plug-in and program libraries as it pertains to volume levels.

I will cover this topic more in depth in a blog, video, tutorial, and eBook time permitting.
What you need to know for now pertains to this collection and to other libraries created by CDS.

For compression, you will receive deeper compression amounts with deeper threshold by sending a level to NebPro near a digital peak of 0dB. You can use any volume input that you wish, but since the reaction of the compressor is based upon the peak of a signal no matter what its actual response is to rms or averaged levels, the depth and ratio of these programs are based upon a peak response. The closer the input signal is to 0dB, the larger amount of compression will take place.

    Program Description:

    CC-BUSS-VCA-1

This Program is the Custom Shop compressor – Buss VCA – 1

This program provides full control over ratio and threshold with a fixed attack and release. Threshold becomes the most affective below -30dB, and ratio becomes the most audible above 5:1. Both are active at all times.

The Ratio numbers stand for the ratio range of 2:1 to 11:1. 2:1 is designated as 21.00. The 11:1 ratio is designated as 111.0. All distortion kernels are being used for this program.

    CC-BUSS-VCA-1 C

This is the same program with distortion kernels removed.

    CC-BUSS-VCA-1B

This Program is the Custom Shop compressor – Buss VCA – 1

This program is Mode 2 with adjusted timing and internal balance to lower frequency. It provides full control over ratio and threshold with a fixed attack and release.

This program is especially retuned to maintain the qualities of mode 1 while being suited towards challenging sub-harmonic bass frequencies that often overwhelm fast compression settings. This custom compressor is remarakably capable with low frequencies, but in the situation that you have a bass track that needs different timing, this is the program to use. As it happens, it has a fantastic affect on all program material, so feel free to test the difference in response.

    CC-BUSS-VCA-1BC

This is the same program with distortion kernels removed.
