    The Programs

“LA-2A Preamp Collection For Nebula Pro” is a collection of 21 programs, all sampled at 96kHz and tested to retain accuracy at 44.1kHz and 48kHz sample rates with the latest version of Nebula3 Pro.

You must be using an updated version of Nebula Pro Commercial for this collection.

It is designed to be used with the “Reverb” instance of Neb Pro.

    Program Description:

“LA-2A Preamp Collection For Nebula Pro” is installed to the “LA2” main category.

Under this category, there are the sub-categories “CMP” for Compressor, “GAN” for Gain, and “LIM” for Limiter.
Under each of these categories there are the sub-categories “Low”, Med”, “Hi”, “7K”, and “CLN”.

The Low, Medium, and High programs are edited to provide you with the character of the LA-2A at low, moderate, and high levels of gain drive. This controls the frequency and harmonic distortion of the unit and they contain 10 Kernels of distortion.

The 7k Programs are the same as the Low, Medium, and High programs with distortion Kernels reduced to 7 Kernels for a similar complex effect with slightly less memory use. The “Clean” programs are identical to the original with all distortion Kernels removed. This gives the effect of the dynamic frequency response of the programs without the harmonic content, which also greatly reduces the resources used.

    LA2A-COMP-HIGH
This program provides you with the LA-2A in Compression mode. Settings are carefully set so that the signal is being passed through the entire signal and is activating the opto-cell but with very little compression so that it does not alter the accuracy of the spectral response. Use this program for the most accurate setting using all 10 Kernels of distortion. Place an instance of this program after your LA-2A software emulator when it is set to Compression mode.

    LA2A-COMP-HIGH7K
This program is the same as above with 7 Kernels of harmonic distortion for similar realism with reduced resource use.

    LA2A-COMP-CLEAN
This program is the same as above with the harmonic content removed.

    LA2A-COMP-MED
This program provides you with the LA-2A in Compression mode. This program has the same characteristics as “LA2A-COMP-HIGH” but is sampled and edited at slightly lower compression and harmonic distortion levels. You can choose to use this program if you are only applying a subtle amount of compression but still wish to add the realism of the real hardware to your signal chain.

    LA2A-COMP-MED7K
This program is the same as above with 7 Kernels of harmonic distortion for similar realism with reduced resource use.

    LA2A-COMP-LOW
This program provides you with the LA-2A in Compression mode. This program has the same characteristics as “LA2A-COMP-HIGH” but is sampled and edited at a lower compression and harmonic distortion levels. You can choose to use this program if you are only applying a very small amount of compression but still wish to add the realism of the real hardware to your signal chain.

    LA2A-COMP-LOW7K
This program is the same as above with 7 Kernels of harmonic distortion for similar realism with reduced resource use.

    LA2A-LIM-HIGH
This program provides you with the LA-2A in Limiting mode. Settings are carefully set so that the signal is being passed through the entire signal and is activating the opto-cell but with very little limiting so that it does not alter the accuracy of the spectral response. Use this program for the most accurate setting using all 10 Kernels of distortion. Place an instance of this program after your LA-2A software emulator when it is set to Limiting mode.

    LA2A-LIM-HIGH7K
This program is the same as above with the 7 Kernels of harmonic distortion for similar realism with reduced resource use.

    LA2A-LIM-CLEAN
This program is the same as above with the harmonic content removed.

    LA2A-LIM-MED
This program provides you with the LA-2A in Limiting mode. This program has the same characteristics as “LA2A-LIM-HIGH” but is sampled and edited at slightly lower limiting and harmonic distortion levels. You can choose to use this program if you are only applying a subtle amount of limiting but still wish to add the realism of the real hardware to your signal chain.

    LA2A-LIM-MED7K
This program is the same as above with the 7 Kernels of harmonic distortion for similar realism with reduced resource use.

    LA2A-LIM-LOW
This program provides you with the LA-2A in Limiting mode. This program has the same characteristics as “LA2A-LIM-HIGH” but is sampled and edited at a lower limiting and harmonic distortion levels. You can choose to use this program if you are only applying a very small amount of limiting but still wish to add the realism of the real hardware to your signal chain.

    LA2A-LIM-LOW7K
This program is the same as above with 7 Kernels of harmonic distortion for similar realism with reduced resource use.

    LA2A-GAIN HIGH
This program provides you with the LA-2A with the gain level increased and without any compression or limiting taking place. Levels are carefully set so that the signal is capturing the entire signal chain but is not activating any change to occur in the opto-cell. This program can be used on its own to give the sound of the LA-2A while not compressing or limiting, or it can be used after an instance of a compressor or limiter session following your software emulator to add an extra level of realism and slightly more drive to the character of the sound.

    LA2A-GAIN HIGH7K
This program is the same as above with 7 Kernels of harmonic distortion for similar realism with reduced resource use.

    LA2A-GAIN CLEAN
This program is the same as above with the harmonic content removed.

    LA2A-GAIN MED
This program is the same as the “High” version but is recorded and edited to provide moderate levels instead of more heavily driven levels.

    LA2A-GAIN MED7K
This program is the same as above with 7 Kernels of harmonic distortion for similar realism with reduced resource use.

    LA2A-GAIN LOW

This program is the same as the “High” version but is recorded and edited to provide lower gain levels instead of more heavily driven levels.

    LA2A-GAIN LOW7K
This program is the same as above with 7 Kernels of harmonic distortion for similar realism with reduced resource use.

About “LA-2A Preamp Collection For Nebula Pro”

The “LA-2A Preamp Collection For Nebula Pro” is designed to provide you the most authentic sound of this legendary compressor/limiter when combined with your choice of software LA-2A emulator.
I recommend using your software LA-2A emulator first, followed by the corresponding Limiter or Compressor program and then followed by the “Gain” program of choice. You do not have to use the “Gain” program, but if you are driving the compressor at more than moderate levels you may enjoy this added effect. This is pushing the actual output electronics a little bit harder in addition to the general signal chain. Becuase this is being performed without any compression or limiting, it remains consistent over the entire sprectrum, which can be a nice effect when added to the chain. If you wish to simply add the sound of the LA-2A without any other software in the chain, you can choose to use the Compressor, Limiter, or Gain of choice. The “Compressor” programs are running the opto-cell at very low levels with moderate gain applied while in Compression mode. The same is true for the Limiter programs in Limiter mode. The Gain programs are not causing any compression to occur and are driving the electronics slightly harder than the other two modes.
